The 5Rhythms® Movement Practice is a movement meditation, a map; a moving map of the natural path of energy in any creative process. These rhythms are inherent in all of nature, including every cell of our body. We move with these rhythms to bring what already exists in and around us more fully into our body/self-awareness, connecting us deeper to the fullness of life.
The 5Rhythms follow a cyclical pattern called a Wave: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness. The Wave is rooted in our feet and supported with our breath. Each rhythm is rich with information and a metaphor for life. As we embody the rhythms and trust what they teach us, we can lean on the wisdom they offer to guide us in our daily life. Judgements melt and compassion grows as we experience ourselves as energy in motion.
In a class or workshop setting, we use live or recorded music, to seduce us into the shapes and patterns of each rhythm. The journey through a Rhythm Wave is our own. There is no choreography. Your dance is your self-expression. You can be any size, shape, age, or level of experience. You can be a closet dancer, have never danced, or have always danced. The music, the suggestions, the rhythms are tools used to bring us deeper into our body, liberating our capacity to express, expanding the experience of who we truly are.
